Van Hattum en Blankevoort has started work on extending the deep-sea quay wall of Sif, commissioned by the Port of Rotterdam Authority.
Europe Port of Rotterdam Authority
This is the second part of the deep-draught quay of the port. The quay wall in the Prinses Arianehaven in Rotterdam Maasvlakte is to be extended by 200 metres with a retaining height of 30 metres.
Sif Netherlands B.V. manufactures large steel pipes that are used for the foundations of offshore wind turbines. At the Sif quay in Maasvlakte, these 120-metre-long monopiles, 11 metres in diameter, are loaded onto gigantic offshore installation vessels. Once offshore, the monopiles are driven into the sea bed as a foundation for the wind turbines.
Port of Rotterdam to expand dolphin configurations
The Port of Rotterdam Authority is going to install a new dolphin configuration and expand two existing dolphin configurations along the Rozenburg Peninsula in the Calandkanaal, as quite often all berths are taken. To attract new cargo flows, expansion is required. Transhipment at the dolphins and buoys in the port of Rotterdam increased from 16 million tonnes in 2014 to 20 million tonnes in 2019.
The installation is in line with the policy of the Port of Rotterdam Authority to modernise the port area and use it more efficiently. What is more, the Port Authority wants to retain its leading position in the crude oil, oil products and LNG segment and strengthen it further.

Port of Rotterdam Authority joins BIM Basis Infra
The Port of Rotterdam and the construction industry are embracing digitisation at a rate of knots. Digitisation and automation allow collaboration in an increasingly complex environment. The precondition for digital collaboration between supply chain partners such as engineering firms and construction companies is that they all speak the same ‘digital’ language. This is why the Port of Rotterdam Authority is joining BIM Basis Infra, a common language used for exchanging digital information about infrastructure.
BIM Basis Infra helps prevent failure costs (the costs incurred due to errors in design and during construction). This development is in line with the Port of Rotterdam Authority’s ambition to build an ever smarter port and for the most reliable, seamless and sustainable logistics chains to operate through the Port of Rotterdam.
Latitude and longitude positions are on WGS84 horizontal datum and are compatible with GDA94 datum.

Optimization of supply routes for COVID-19 vaccine distribution
Wednesday, January 27, 2021, Panama Canal, Panama
The Panama Canal has signed memorandums of Understanding with Panama Ports Company (PPC) and PSA Panama International Terminal (PSA Panama) to help optimize supply routes for the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine and supplies to Latin America.
Panama’s logistics capabilities and strategic location at the crossroads of the Americas make it uniquely positioned to assist in meeting the demand imposed on supply chains by the worldwide pandemic.
