Kyle Baptiste, 20, who has two addresses – one at Sea Lots in Port of Spain and the other at Cham Road in Mayaro – pleaded guilty to one of five counts of larceny. He faced Mayaro magistrate Ava Vandenberg-Bailey on Monday charged with the offences, which occurred on Friday and Saturday, in the district. Baptiste reportedly approached the training group around 8.40am on Saturday, grabbed the phones, and ran off. The group members chased and subdued him a short distance away. They handed him over to Mayaro police.

Ex-murder accused wants bail for murder Wednesday 10 February 2021 A NOVEL constitutional claim is engaging the attention of the High Court and the judge hearing the matter will rule later this month on whether someone accused of murder should be allowed to apply for bail. Justice Joan Charles will give her decision on February 19 on the claim of former murder accused Akilli Charles to have the section of the Bail Act which makes murder a non-bailable offence declared unconstitutional. Charles was one of a group of men who rioted at the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court during the Marcia Ayers-Caesar debacle. He was given a fresh preliminary inquiry and was discharged on a no-case submission on May 21, 2019, after spending almost nine years on remand.

POS man ordered to stay away from family

A Port-of-Spain man has been ordered to stay away from his family and neighbours following a domestic incident which occurred on January 24th. Sherwin Bute, also known as ‘Ziggy,’ was given the order to stay away from the residence of the alleged victims by Deputy Chief Magistrate, Cherril-Anne Antoine, as part of his bail conditions, after appearing virtually before her at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court on January 29th. He was charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, one count of grievous bodily harm and one count of cruelty to a child. Bute was granted bail for $80,000. He will reappear before the court again on February 26th.
