The Port Elizabeth High Court has ordered speaker of the Nelson Mandela Bay metro to convene a council meeting within seven days to elect the new executive mayor. Bhanga was elected mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay on 4 December during a chaotic council meeting presided by Patriotic Alliance councillor Marlon Daniels. After 46 days in office, Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor Nqaba Bhanga will relinquish his mayoral chain in seven days’ time, and elections for a new mayor will be held in the metro.
