KLANG: The amount of cargo handled at the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) has jumped by 53% year-on-year, said its management.
Its general manager Safuan Basir said its business volume has increased significantly as there is a great demand for storage space at warehouses during the pandemic. Due to the slowdown in production globally, a lot of raw materials require storage space.Over the last months in 2020, the demand for storage space in PKFZ actually spiked, so our warehouses were quite full. We are expecting to have handled a little less than 500,000 TEUs for 2020, compared to about 300,000 in 2019, he said at a press conference in the PKFZ office on Thursday (Dec 10).
