Five staff members at a hospital on the NSW mid-north coast were allegedly assaulted by a violent patient at the weekend who bit, hit and broke bones.
A 40-year-old man was taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital under police guard for the purpose of a mental health assessment about 3am on Saturday.
However while he was receiving treatment the patient became agitated and allegedly lashed out at staff and tried to leave.
