Centre County Adds 1 COVID-19 Case; Pennsylvania Reports 425 New Positives

Centre County added one COVID-19 case on Thursday to increase its total to 16,950, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Pennsylvania reported 425 new positives, bringing the statewide total to 1,215,352. It was the state’s largest increase since June 15, when there were 453 new cases. The county also reported 51 negatives, bringing its total to 71,827. Statewide, there were 4,455 new negatives for a total of 4,832,207. According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, four COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, with none in intensive care or on ventilators all unchanged from Wednesday. Pennsylvania has 246 COVID-19 inpatients, an increase of one since Wednesday, with 47 in intensive care [-1] and 28 on ventilators [-1].

State College Detective, State Trooper Named Centre County Law Enforcement Officers of the Year

A veteran detective whose investigation led to the arrest of an alleged serial rapist and a state trooper who has been involved in some of the county’s most serious cases in recent years were honored on Tuesday as Centre County’s Law Enforcement Officers of the Year. Deputy District Attorney Sean McGraw presented the awards to State College Detective Stephen Bosak and Rockview state police Trooper Michael Brown during a ceremony at the courthouse in Bellefonte. Instituted by District Attorney Bernie Cantorna in 2019, the award has been given to two officers each of the pastthree years. Following nominations submitted by the public and law enforcement community, a committee selected from among four final nominees. The other two nominees this year were State College Sgt. Martin Hanes and Penn State University Police Detective Andrew Stager, both of whom were recognized for their investigative work.
