Shahpur-Kandi project to change destiny of J&K s farmers

Polavaram Irrigation Project is lifeline of Andhra Pradesh: Superintendent Engineer Ramesh Babu Laying of the foundation stone of Ravi canal of the Shahpur Kandi Project has rekindled a ray of hope among farmers of Samba and Kathua districts of Jammu and Kashmir as over 32,000 hectares of barren land of Kandi belt will turn fertile after completion of the project.  It will also provide irrigation facilities to over 5,000 hectares of land in Pathankot district of the neighbouring Punjab. Union Minister of State Jatindra Singh, who is a Lok Sabha member from Udhampur-Doda parliamentary constituency, recently laid the foundation stone of the project. There was no hindrance in signing of agreement and execution of the project from the Punjab Government but the successive governments of J&K had intentionally delayed this project , he alleged.

Narayana Reddy, Polavaram project Superintendent Engineer Narasimha Murthy, DDRP members Y.K. Handa and Bhargava, Megha Engineering Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) director Ch. Subbaiah, General Manager A. Satish Babu and others reviewed the designs of the project at Rajamahendravaram on Saturday.

192 girders erected at Polavaram in record time Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA The Megha Engineering Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) has completed the spillway work, which was claimed to be the largest operation in the world, by installing 192 girders on the spillway at the Polavaram project on Sunday. The spillway work was completed in just 60 days. Each girder, weighing about 62 tonnes, was 23 metres long. Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, officials of the Polavaram Irrigation Project (PIP) and the Irrigation department authorities monitored the works continuously.
