Denmark-based GomSpace has entered a procurement deal to develop and deliver a constellation of satellites for the UK s Sky and Space Global (SAS) within four years.
The contract is valued between €35m and €55m depending upon various options, including development, services and choice of satellites. Delivery of the first set of units is expected by next year.
GomSpace CEO Niels Buus said: “With this project, we believe that Sky and Space Global, seconded by GomSpace, is on the verge of a breakthrough for nanosatellites in the professional low-earth orbit satellite business.”
SAS is currently preparing to launch its first 3 Diamonds nanosatellite constellation from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, India.

This day, 36 years ago, Aryabhatta, the rudimentary satellite, built indigenously by Indian space scientists and weighing 360 kg, successfully zoomed into space. It launched the country’s spectacular journey of conquests in space technology that are often described as based on ‘frugal innovations, low budget but huge societal benefit’.
In 2017, the nation’s launched capabilities peaked with a world record of placing 104 satellites through its Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has probes circling the Moon and Mars, sending pictures already. It was aiming to send humans through the Gaganyaan project.
Isro spy case: After trial by fire, comeuppance for conspirators now April 19, 2021, 1:16 AM IST
If Indian politics is a theatre, Tamil Nadu is a multiplex. Where cigarette flicks and dark glasses are the perennial symbols of style and substance, sycophancy does a tandava over psephology. And with the players ensconced in the ministerial thrones in Delhi, it is no longer just a southern delight. Arun Ram, Resident Editor, The Times of India, Tamil Nadu, who alternates between the balcony and the front row, says it incites as much as it excites. During the intervals, he chews on a bit of science and such saner things. LESS. MORE
S. Nambi Narayanan
The 1994 espionage case of ISRO that ruined the prominence of scientist S. Nambi Narayanan finally seems to be heading towards justice. The Supreme Court is tomorrow scheduled to hear Union of India’s IA filed in the case against Narayanan that was later found to be false. Since this case led to immense humiliation and harassment of Narayanan publicly, if details of the report will be made public or not by the apex court would be an important aspect.
Another important question is if an act to protect Indian scientists will be implemented after such a case or probably a conspiracy against Indian scientists that not just led to Narayanan’s plight but also slowed down the progress of ISRO. Narayanan headed the Cryogenics department of ISRO and his work in liquid propulsion was instrumental for the development of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle or PSLV: the rocket that carries most of the projects made by ISRO into space.
