With the closing of the agreement, which was first announced on 10 February 2021, PGE and Ørsted now each own 50% of the shares in the offshore wind projects Baltica 2 and Baltica 3, together comprising the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm, the largest offshore wind project in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea. The partners will jointly build and operate the offshore wind farms which will have a total installed capacity of up to 2.5 GW.
In mid-March, the President of the Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection approved the joint venture. Subsequently, the partners submitted an application for registration to the National Court Register and have now closed the transaction, which means that Ørsted has acquired the 50% stake in the two project companies.
Kongstein, Inter Marine Team Up for Polish Offshore Wind
Kongstein and Inter Marine have entered into a cooperation agreement to provide combined services to the Polish offshore wind market. The cooperation will also see the partners working on hydrogen projects.
Norwegian provider of technical advisory and project management services to the offshore renewables industry and Polish provider of offshore services will pool their expertise to support the emerging offshore wind market in Poland, where Contracts for Difference (CfDs) for the first projects have just been awarded.
Managing Director of Kongsteain, Rune Tvedt, said that this kind of cooperation between the two countries had “worked brilliantly” in the shipping and oil and gas industries, and that the company would do its best to continue this relationship in the offshore renewables industry.
RWE’s planned Polish wind farm awarded Contract for Difference
RWE has moved a major step closer to the realisation of its first offshore wind farm in Poland: the Polish Energy Regulatory Office has awarded a Contract for Difference (CfD) to the F.E.W. Baltic II offshore wind project, which will have a planned installed capacity of 350 MW. This confirms that RWE’s project has been selected for the first phase of Poland’s ambitious offshore wind build-out programme. The CfD award is subject to final approval from the European Commission.
In December 2020, RWE signed a Grid Connection Agreement for the F.E.W. Baltic II project, which is located north of the Slupsk sand bank in the central Polish Baltic Sea exclusive economic zone. Subject to the final investment decision, construction works could commence as early as 2024. Once fully operational, the wind farm would be capable of producing enough green electricity to supply the equivalent of around 350 000 households.

Poland Awards CfD for Giant Offshore Wind Project
The Polish Energy Regulatory Office has awarded a Contract for Difference to the Baltica 3 and Baltica 2 offshore wind farms with a total capacity of up to 2.5 GW, Danish offshore wind developer Ørsted said Wednesday evening.
With a total capacity of up to 2.5 GW, Baltica 3 and 2 will generate enough green electricity to power 4 million Polish households.
In February 2021, Ørsted and PGE signed an agreement to form a 50/50 joint venture for the development, construction, and operation of Baltica 3 and 2, developed through special purpose vehicles.
Subject to the closing of the joint venture transaction and Ørsted’s and PGE’s final investment decisions, the Baltica 3-phase of the project (up to 1 GW) would start generating power around 2026, while the Baltica 2-phase (up to 1.5 GW) could become operational before 2030. The CfD award is subject to final approval from the European Commission.
