It s been 50 years since the York City Police Department stopped using K-9 dogs, and with good reason. The dogs doing the bidding of their officer handlers terrorized Black residents and helped foment York s 1968 and 1969 race riots. We just weren t supposed to broach that subject anymore, Police Commissioner Michael Muldrow told The York Dispatch. When I was a kid and involved in York City Police Department culture under my dad (retired Officer Thomas Mo Muldrow), it had always been an unwritten rule that there weren t supposed to be any kind of dogs … because of how dogs were used in the past. A York City woman was arrested Wednesday, accused of stabbing her 5-year-old daughter repeatedly in the stomach and back, according to police.
Cierra Moniqy Allen, 30, of the first block of West Maple Street, is charged with attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault with extreme indifference, aggravated assault on a victim younger than 13 and endangering the welfare of a child. All are felonies.
She was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Lindy Lane Sweeney and is in York County Prison without bail. Allen was denied bail because she has mental issues,” according to court records, and may be a danger to herself and others, including her children.

YORK, Pa. Since taking over the post a few months ago, Police Commissioner Michael Muldrow has been making strides to bring the community and law enforcement together.
One of his top priorities is building relationships with members of the community. In December 2020, the York City Police launched the “Walk and Talks,” initiative, walking the beat in various neighborhoods, every Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m, according to FOX43 s Harri Leigh.

Muldrow detailed the recent uptick in shootings during a public forum in front of about 50 city residents Monday evening at Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene s York City campus.
The number of shootings between Jan. 1 and March 31 marked a 75% increase over the same time period last year.
For the five years for which data is available, the former record number of shootings in the first three months of a year was nine, which occurred in 2018.
