Shazia Ishaq becomes first woman police officer from Malakand - Pakistan

CHITRAL: Shazia Ishaq, 25, belonging to a remote village of Upper Chitral, has become the first woman police officer in Malakand division after she passed the competitive examination of the Federal Public Service Commission. Daughter of a retired junior commissioned officer of the Pak Army, Ms Ishaq had earned a BS degree in political science from Islamia College University in 2018. Talking to Dawn, she said Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) was her first choice in the competitive examination as she yearned to be a police officer from her childhood. Explaining the reason of her choice, she said in the male-dominated society a woman police officer could be a ‘ray of hope’ for women in distress.

Shazia received her primary education in Upper Chitral and then transitioned to Islamia College Peshawar for higher education. She has also won the National Science Competition Award in 2009. In regard to her achievement, Shazia said that hard work is never in vain and that she wishes to become a beacon of hope to the women of Chitral. She added that women too, like men, can gain prominence in any field they desire if given the opportunity.

ISLAMABAD: A high-level committee headed by the chairperson of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) on Monday scrutinised the cases of ‘forced’ retirement of senior bureaucrats of BS-20 to BS-22. The officers being considered for retirement included six officers of BS-22, seven of BS-21 of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), two officers of BS-21 and eight officers of the Police Service of Pakistan, including former CCPO Lahore Umer Sheikh, and other civil service cadres. The panel of the Secretariat Group of BS-22 for “Directory Retirement Board” included Aamer Hasan, Dr Imran Zeb Khan, Mohammad Hashim Popalzai, Mohammad Naeem, Pervaiz Ahmed Junejo and Noor Ahmed.
