Fall River Police Department struggling to find good recruits

FALL RIVER Police Chief Jeffrey Cardoza said the situation could be lot worse for his department when it comes to the challenge of hiring new police officers and retaining others who might be tempted to take early retirement. Unlike the New York City Police Department which reportedly saw a 75 percent increase in the number of uniformed officers either quitting or retiring in 2020 as compared to 2019  Cardoza said there hasn’t been anything resembling a mass exodus of Fall River cops during the past year. He said “a couple” of officers left the department last year before becoming eligible for full pension benefits and that a couple more have said they’ll take early retirement before the end of 2021.
