WEIRTON An investigation is ongoing following a single-vehicle crash in the city early Wednesday. Weirton Police reported a call shortly after 3 a.m. of a single-vehicle crash on Cove Road, near Kusic Street. The 2016 Ford Fusion was traveling east when it left the right side of the roadway, went down an embankment and struck a tree, officers reported. The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A male passenger was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital, in critical, but stable, condition. Neither individual was wearing a seatbelt, according to officials. No names or other information is being released, pending notification of families.

Council unanimously approved the first reading for the issue of up to $5,972,458 in bonds to be sold to repay a $4.9 million loan from the state Water Development Authority taken for replacement of water lines and electrical and other upgrades to the water plant.
