Lawrence police create registry for special needs children
Aiming to help police officers and special needs children in an emergency, the Lawrence Township Police Department has launched Lville S.A.F.E.: Secure Awareness for First Encounters.
Parents and guardians whose child is autistic or who has a communications issue may register the child on the free Lville S.A.F.E. registry, said Police Chief Brian Caloiaro.
The goal is to help police and the children in an emergency.
“Police officers in Lawrence Township have been trained in dealing with disabilities. This program will just add to that training to ensure the safety and well-being of both the affected persons and the police officers,” Caloiaro said.
Manitou Springs council members say they learn more from media than city
MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) There appears to be tension among Manitou Springs council members and city leaders over the information being released to the public.
Specifically, some council members say they are learning more about what the city is doing from media reports than their own city government they represent. This comes in the wake of the town s police chief resigning after being placed on administrative leave for months.
In a city council meeting Tuesday evening, Manitou Springs council members Julie Wolfe, John Shada and Judith Chandler expressed concerns over not being made aware of what the city is releasing when responding to open records requests.

Keep those masks on when walking outside in one of Snowmass Village’s three commercial hubs: Town Council voted April 5 on second reading to extend an ordinance designating mandatory mask zones in Base Village, the Snowmass Center and the Snowmass Mall through June 7.
Council members Tom Fridstein, Tom Goode, Alyssa Shenk and Bob Sirkus voted in favor of the extension at the regular meeting; Mayor Bill Madsen was the dissenting vote.
That’s sooner than the extension originally specified it would otherwise have been scheduled to sunset Sept. 30 if council had approved it as-is, according to a copy of the ordinance

TAMPA, Fla. â The Tampa Police officer who died after crashing into a wrong-way driver was awarded the agency s Life Saving Award seven times throughout his career.
Master Patrol Officer Jesse Madsen, 45, had served as a Tampa Police officer for 16 and a half years.
He was a husband and father of three. He was also a U.S. Marine.
He died on Tuesday morning around 1 a.m. after his patrol car crashed into a wrong-way driver on I-275. We have reason to believe that he veered into this oncoming car to protect others, that is what we gathered through some of our witnesses, said Police Chief Brian Dugan. When you look at someone who has earned seven Life Saving Awards, it s no surprise, he would take such swift action and do this.
