SOMERSET One person died early Wednesday in a crash on Interstate 195 in Somerset caused by a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction.
According to a press release from Massachusetts State Police, at 3:45 a.m. state police responded to reports of a wrong-way crash on I-195 westbound in Somerset. The crash resulted in the death of the driver whose vehicle was struck head on by the wrong-way driver.
Preliminary investigation by state troopers indicates that a 2006 Volvo XC90 being operated by a 50-year-old Bristol, R.I., man was travelling east on the west side of I-195.
In the area of mile marker 9.6 the Volvo struck a 2017 Nissan Sentra, travelling in the correct direction, head on. The Nissan burst into flames. The Nissan’s driver and sole occupant, a 21-year-old Portsmouth, R.I., man, was determined to be deceased in the vehicle. His name is not being released at this time, the news release said.
