Washington mayor has extended the public emergency in the city
Police in Washington DC have made 68 arrests related to the violent storming of the US Capitol yesterday.
The city s police chief said: We still have a significant amount of work ahead of us to identify and hold each and everyone of the violent mob accountable for their actions.
The first round of Trump s supporters are due in court to face charges over the protests, as police stepped up their search for others involved in the violence.
Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee said 47 of the arrests to date were related to violations of Mayor Muriel Bowser s curfew, with 26 of those involving people arrested on US Capitol grounds.
The FBI says it is now seeking information about those involved in Wednesday s riots at the U.S. Capitol.
Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee says four people died during the riots. One woman was shot and killed inside the Capitol. She was part of the crowd that was breaking down the doors to a barricaded room where armed officers stood on the other side, police said.
She was shot in the chest by Capitol police and taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. City police said three other people died from medical emergencies during the long protest on and around the Capitol grounds.

The vice chairwoman of the Young Republicans of Oregon is among three residents arrested during the Wednesday riot.
At least three people with ties to Oregon were arrested after a mob broke into the U.S. Capitol building Wednesday in the District of Columbia, according to police.
Rodney Taylor, 57, was arrested on a curfew violation charge. Yevgemya Malimon, 54, was arrested for curfew violation and unlawful entry, as was Kristina Malimon, 28.
Kristina Malimon is the vice chairwoman for the Young Republicans of Oregon (YRO), according to the organization s website.
Organization chairman Stephen Lloyd confirmed via email that Malimon was intending to attend a number of political events in the D.C. area.
