Police are praising Wellingtonians for having trouble-free fun en masse over the late summer.
Thousands of Wellingtonians and visitors alike attended events in the city including Homegrown, and CubaDupa.
“We have been heartened to watch thousands of people come together at different events in the Capital over the past few months to have a good time responsibly without any significant issues,” says Wellington Area Prevention Manager Inspector Warwick McKee.
“Keeping large groups of people safe in confined spaces is a challenge for both event planners and Police.
“Considerable planning goes into the Police response to major events and while we have to plan for the worst-case scenario, we always hope for the best.

It was a lucky rescue for two men onboard a 50-foot yacht in distress off the east coast of Marlborough last night.
Police were alerted just after 8pm by one of the men onboard the ex-fishing trawler, which had lost power in big swells.
A search and rescue operation was launched in conjunction with Maritime NZ.
The vessel’s lifejackets had been lost overboard in the swell. Police search and rescue co-ordinator Senior Sergeant Peter Payne says the potential was there for the situation to end very badly.
“I started to have some concerns early on in the piece. Given the weather conditions, we couldn’t fly, and you’re really limited in the number of vessels that can head out to assist,” he says.

New Zealand has seen a tragic Easter weekend on its roads, and Police extends its sympathies to the families and friends of the eight people who died this holiday period.
Any number of deaths is too many, but this is the highest number of deaths for the Easter holiday period in more than a decade which is an unacceptable outcome.
The aftermath of a fatal car crash extends further than just the families involved.
Our thoughts are with our staff and other emergency services, who have to deal with crash scenes and advise family members that their loved one isn’t coming home.
