Thirteen men, including an assistant youth football coach, were arrested in a monthlong investigation into the possession and distribution of child pornography, the Polk County Sheriff s Office said Tuesday.
The operation by undercover detectives with the Sheriff s Office s computer crimes unit ended Monday. It was the same operation that resulted in the arrest of Lakeland High School teacher and varsity soccer coach Shawn Fitzgerald.
“The men arrested in this operation create a market for these kinds of horrific images that are dependent upon the continued sexual abuse and rape of babies and children worldwide, Sheriff Grady Judd said in a news release Tuesday. Each time these images and videos are uploaded and shared these children are victimized again and again. I appreciate the hard work our detectives did that was necessary to file these charges.
