New Delhi, Jan 24 (IANS): For the first time, the number of states affected by the outbreak of bird flu has reached double digits in India, although wild birds are worst affected by this disease. The poultry trade has not yet recovered from the outbreak. However, the demand for chicken at hotels and restaurants has seen an improvement over the previous week.
Though, bird flu has been confirmed in poultry birds in nine states, but its impact is quite low. Experts point out that the new avian influenza virus is not dangerous to humans.

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India: Amidst mounting concerns over the human transmission of Avian Influenza in India, the Right To Protein Initiative today released guidelines to raise awareness on safe consumption of poultry and help consumers mitigate the risk of the disease spreading. These guidelines have been developed in association with the Poultry Federation of India, citing hygiene protocols from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and by World Health Organization (WHO), to ensure consumers are equipped with the right information to maintain adequate protein consumption in their daily diets.

Those violating the order will be banned from trading in meat in future and their trade licence will be cancelled; all hotels and restaurants have also been ordered not to serve eggs, poultry meat, and poultry products

As the bird flu scare looms large, all three civic bodies in Delhi have issued orders, directing all restaurants and eateries not to serve processed chicken and egg preparations to customers. 10 states, including Delhi-NCR, have confirmed avian flu.

Bird flu fear crashes prices of chicken, poultry products

Due to the fear of bird flu that has been confirmed in multiple states across the country, sale in the poultry industry has seen a dip. Transportation of hens from one state to another has been banned in North India resulting in significant dip in sales of chicken and chicken products.
