San Diego Unified released a statement following the confirmation saying Marten will prepare to transition from the San Diego Unified School District to Washington, D.C.. to serve President Joe Biden and students nationwide. Once Marten is sworn into office by the Biden administration, she will assume the federal post after more than three decades as an educator in San Diego, including eight years as superintendent of California’s second-largest district.
Lamont Jackson, San Diego Unified Area superintendent, is serving as interim superintendent through the end of the year until a permanent replacement for Marten is found.
Marten was previously a principal, teacher and administrator. She got her start as a teacher and schoolwide literacy specialist in the Poway Unified School District and has worked as an educator for 32 years, including 17 years as a teacher and stretches as a principal and vice-principal.

As she was writing her very first children’s book, Christine Paik was certain about one thing: the illustrations had to be done by her mother, Jung Lin Park. No exceptions.
Who else could capture the intricate details and emotional nuances in “The Girl in the Gold Dress,” a family-inspired intergenerational story?
“It was a make or break thing for me,” explained Paik. “Having my mom do the illustrating was part of the whole purpose of the book.”

Lakeside Union School District Superintendent Andy Johnsen is leaving his position June 30 and starting a new role as the superintendent at San Marcos Unified School District the next day.
The five-member Lakeside school board learned of Johnsen’s hire on April 21 when the San Marcos district announced it. One week later, Rhonda Taylor, a Lakeside school board member since 2016, announced her resignation from the board.
Taylor ostensibly did so to avoid a conflict of interest if the remaining board members should decide to hire her as superintendent, a job in which she has expressed interest.
A Lakeside resident, Taylor is in her sixth year as principal at Morningside Elementary School in the Poway Unified School District. Taylor, an East County resident for more than 30 years and a University of San Diego graduate, did her student teaching in Lakeside. She was a teacher, vice principal and principal at several schools in the 10-school district for nearly two decade
