The Vizianagaram district administration is geared up for the final phase of the panchayat elections to be held on Sunday.
Voters will elect 238 sarpanches and 1,947 ward members. The elections are expected to be crucial in Lotugedda, Kuneru, Kondalingalavalasa and Daraparthi with the reported presence of Maoists and their sympathisers.

Rajakumari reviewed the poll arrangements and advised the staff to guard the polling material and inform higher officials in case of any untoward incident in sensitive places. Ashok Gajapathi Raju from the post of chairman/Founder Family Member (FFM) of trust boards of three temples, mainly including Sri Rama Swamy Devasthanam at Ramateertham in Vizianagaram district.
Mr. Raju was expelled from the chairmanship of the temple trust boards for allegedly failing to take steps that could have prevented the destruction of the idol of Rama at Ramateertham temple.

Andhra Pradesh Director-General of Police, Gautam Sawang, has blamed cadres of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the attack on temples in the State, and is under fire for allegedly âspeaking like a spokespersonâ of the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).
During the weekend, Sawang came up with details of, what he called, political links to the desecration of the temples and âfalse propagandaâ on social media.
