MISSILES are raining down on the people of Gaza, as the Israelis step up their war to prevent the establishment of the state of Palestine, with Jerusalem as its capital.
Over 100 Palestinians have been killed in airstrikes over the last week including at least 23 children. The Israelis are meanwhile gearing up for a ground war, massing tanks and artillery on the Gaza border.
So-called ‘Arab-Israeli’ towns have erupted, with gangs of Zionist thugs smashing up Arab-owned shops, marking the doors of Arab residents, dragging Arabs from cars and beating them unconscious in scenes reminiscent of ‘Kristallnacht’, the Night of Broken Glass, when a pogrom against Jews took place, carried out by SA paramilitary forces and civilians throughout Nazi Germany on 9-10 November 1938.
A tragic week in Palestine
On Wednesday, Youmna al-Sayed, a journalist in Gaza City, was reporting live from a rooftop for Al Jazeera, wearing a large bowl-shaped helmet and a bulky flak jacket with “PRESS” emblazoned across the front. She was right by the Al-Shorouk tower, which housed at least seven media outlets, including the Hamas-affiliated Al-Aqsa TV and a newspaper associated with the Palestinian National Authority and it had just come under fire from Israel. These were “warning missiles,” al-Sayed said, “and right now they should be starting to bring down the entire tower.” Soon, that happened: al-Sayed flinched, said “Oh my god,” and ducked for cover, continuing to narrate as the camera pivoted to show twin plumes of smoke curling into the sky. “The destruction is massive,” she said. Palestine: Israeli military steps up targeting of media offices in Gaza
The Israeli military has intensified its targeted attacks against media offices in Gaza. On 13 May, Israeli forces bombed the Al-Shorouk Tower, which hosts the offices and headquarters of 15 media institutions. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) deplores the systematic attacks on media by the Israeli military and urges the international community to hold Israel accountable for its crimes against media freedom. At the time of writing this call the latest round of Israeli war crimes in Gaza has resulted in the brutal killings of 87 Palestinians, including 18 children and 8 women and over 530 wounded including 115 children and 50 women. Civilian houses are being targeted by American-made F16s and Elbit drones.
