I had never given much thought to Cairo’s street signs. I liked them, certainly - subconsciously I found a certain charm to their white-on-blue calligraphy and often-stunted English transliterations - but I had never really stopped to notice them.
It wasn’t until designers and scholars Bahia Shehab and Haytham Nawar were presenting their new book
A History of Arab Graphic Design, that I learned to do a double-take to their everyday presence.
Sayed Ibrahim, known as the dean of Arabic calligraphy, was a pioneer of the early 20th century, and a graphic designer whose work precedes the term graphic design . In addition to creating the current logo for Al Ahram Newspaper and logotypes for giants such as Om Kulthoum, former president Gamal Abdel Nasser and Prince of Poets Ahmed Shawqi, Ibrahim’s lettering still lines Cairene streets today.
Seventeen new Covid-19 cases recorded among Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jail – Prisoner’s Society
RAMALLAH, Monday, February 01, 2021 (WAFA) – At least 17 Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli Naqab prison were diagnosed with the coronavirus disease, today said the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS).
PPS said that the new cases bring the overall positive corona cases among the Palestinian prisoners in Israel to over 350.
PPS called on competent authorities, led by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), to play an active role in monitoring the conditions of the infected prisoners, to enable prisoners to communicate with their families, and to pressure the Israeli occupation to allow the presence of a neutral medical team to supervise the prisoners health.
From Israeli UN Ambassador Danny Danonâs presentation on payments to Palestinian Authority terrorists, May 11, 2017
Left wing media sites and other anti-Semites are attacking Israel for not taking over responsibility for the Palestinian Authority’s failure to vaccinate their own citizens, despite it being the responsibility of the Palestinian Authority to do so in Judea, Samaria and Gaza, per the Oslo Accords.
And when Israel does send vaccinations to the Palestinian Authority, the PA denies they even received them. Of course, if the Palestinian Authority would stop paying salaries and giving jobs to murderous terrorists, they’d have more than enough money to take care of the health of those that voted them in some 17 years ago.
