The United States on Thursday pushed back a UN Security Council meeting on soaring violence between Israel and the Palestinians until next week, saying it wanted to give time for diplomacy.
The Security Council was set to hold a session Friday on the crisis, but a spokesman for the UN delegation of China the current council president said it would not take place.

WASHINGTON/NEW YORK (Reuters) â President Joe Biden said on Thursday he is pressing for a halt to violence between Israelis and Palestinians, but U.S. officials say they are resigned to the conflict continuing for some days to come.

The sharp escalation in violence between Israel and the Palestinian territories and a mounting death toll have forced the Democrat to launch a diplomatic effort aimed at restoring calm in a volatile region.

Tel Aviv – Israel faced an escalating conflict on two fronts Thursday, scrambling to quell riots between Arabs and Jews on its own streets after days of exchanging deadly fire with Palestinian militants in Gaza.
Despite diplomatic efforts to ease the crisis, which U.S. President Joe Biden said he hoped would end sooner than later, hundreds of rockets flew across the Gaza Strip overnight.

WASHINGTON - The State Department is advising Americans to reconsider any travel they may have planned to Israel and the Palestinian territories due to increasing Israeli-Palestinian violence.
In a notice issued Thursday, the department raised its travel advisory for Israel, the West Bank and Gaza to Level 3 â âreconsider travel.â It had previously been at Level 2, which recommends travelers âexercise increased caution.â
