At least 205 Palestinians and 17 police officers were wounded Friday as clashes erupted at Jerusalem s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, in a serious escalation in tensions that have been building up in Jerusalem over the past weeks.
The Palestinian Red Crescent emergency service said some 205 people were wounded in clashes with police there and elsewhere in Jerusalem, including 88 who were hospitalized. The Palestinian Red has also set up a field hospital on the Mosque s compound due to the large number of wounded protesters, most of them wounded in the face and eyes by rubber-coated bullets and shrapnel from stun grenades.

At least seven fires broke out Friday near the Gaza border in Israel s south, for the second day in a row of incendiary balloons sent from the Gaza Strip into Israel.
The blazes in the area of the Eshkol regional council were all put out, and Israel s Fire and Rescue Service said that the majority of the fires were relatively small, except for one which ripped through a wheat field.
On Thursday, six fires were started by incendiary balloons at two locations near the Gaza border on Thursday, following a flare-up last month between Israel and Hamas, Israeli authorities say. The fires were all brought under control.

Ramallah, May 6 : Palestine will set a new date for holding the general elections if Israel approves voting in East Jerusalem, according to Prime Minister Mohammed Ishtaye. Once Israel allows holding the general elections in East Jerusalem, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will immediately issue a decree to set a new date for the general elections in the Palestinian territories, Ishtaye said during a meeting on Wednesday with Lynn Hastings, the UN deputy special coordinator for the Middle East peace process.

Early this week, two booby-trapped balloons were found in the kibbutz of Kfar Aza. It was not clear when they landed in Israel, and they did not start any fires.
Thursday was the first instance of fires started by balloons floated from Gaza since September.
Last week, Hamas said it would hold Israel responsible if Palestinian parliamentary elections were delayed – as Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas subsequently did, citing Israel s refusal to allow voting in East Jerusalem.
