Mladenov repeatedly managed to prevent escalation between Israel and Hamas, clearly spelled out the obstacles preventing resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and provided consistent and meaningful support to pro-peace Israeli and Palestinian civil society organizations.
Israel is usually concerned about non-American international involvement in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but Mladenov’s tenure proved that the opposite is sometimes true. UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) A Chinese envoy on Monday called for the resumption of peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians.
As close neighbors that cannot physically move away from each other, Palestinians and Israelis must adhere to the strategic option of peace talks and relaunch equal-footed dialogue without delay, said Geng Shuang, China s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations.
China welcomes the initiative of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to convene an international peace conference early next year, and commends the two parties for restarting civil and security cooperation and resuming the transfer of tax revenues, he told a Security Council meeting on the Middle East.

Hamas revealed, on Sunday, the existence of a veto by some Arab parties on the movement s entry to the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO).
Hosam Badran, head of Hamas national relations office, said in statements published on the organisation s website that there are some Arab parties that have vetoed against Hamas entry to the Palestine Liberation Organisation. But let everyone be reassured that Hamas (…) will not be affected by the intensity of the occupation s hostility, or the rivalry of those close to us, and we will not back down on our positions and constants.
