JERUSALEM – Palestinian militants launched dozens of rockets from Gaza and Israel unleashed new airstrikes against them early Tuesday, in an escalation triggered by soaring tensions in Jerusalem and days of clashes at an iconic mosque in the holy city.
Twenty-four people, including nine children, were killed in Gaza overnight, most of them in Israeli strikes. More than 700 Palestinians were hurt in clashes with Israeli security forces in Jerusalem and across the West Bank in 24 hours, including nearly 500 who were treated at hospitals. The Israeli military said six Israeli civilians were hurt by rocket fire Tuesday morning.

During the racist anti-Palestinian riots that ensued in Jerusalem last week, a protester was interviewed by a journalist concerning the approach, specifically, the language used by the enraged crowds.
The journalist asked the young protester if the phrases employed by the demonstrators, phrases like, “Burn the Arab’s villages” and “Death to Arabs”, represented them and their presence at the protest.
In response, she said “I say it in a mannered and proper way. I don’t say ‘let’s burn their villages,’ I say that ‘they should get out and we take over their lands’,” she smirks “…exactly what we do in the Old City.”

The Jerusalem Post reported that both the Samaria Regional Council and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have claimed that it was Palestinians who set the farmland ablaze, and Israeli settlers came to help put out the fires.

Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) is being criticized on Twitter for sharing a since-retracted story accusing Israeli settlers of burning Palestinian land.
Tlaib tweeted on May 5, âStealing Palestinian homes and burning their lands. The actions of an apartheid state. We cannot stand by and watch this happen. @SecBlinken, billions of U.S. taxpayers dollars support Netanyahuâs government and this racist violence. We must condemn this swiftly.â

Yehuda Guetta, 19, who was critically wounded in a drive-by shooting at Tapuach Junction on the northern West Bank earlier in the week, has succumbed to his injuries Wednesday night at Rabin Medical Center in Petah Tikva.
