Democrats prompt Biden to reopen PLO office, consulate in eastern Jerusalem
The PLO Mission faces several legal hurdles that have so far prevented that, as the Palestinians would become liable for more than $650 in financial penalties in U.S. courts.

(May 11, 2021 / JNS) A group of Senate Democrats is urging the Biden administration to follow through on its pledge to reopen the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s office in Washington, in addition to the U.S. consulate in eastern Jerusalem.

Over the past few days on social media live streams, the world has watched in horror the forced expulsion of Palestinian families from the Jerusalem neighbourhood Sheikh Jarrah. The Al-Ghawi family home was forcefully taken over by Israeli settler’s who promised the same to the rest of the community. Ideologically fanatic and armed, the settlers were under the protection of the Israeli police and had legitimate backing through lawsuits in Israeli courts. The current hearings on the evictions of the Sheikh Jarrah families, which the courts ruled in favour of the settlers in December, have now been delayed.

Netanyahu’s provocations in East Jerusalem threaten war with Palestinians
Palestinian demonstrators were met once again on Sunday night by Israeli police clad in riot gear and on horseback in a neighbourhood in occupied East Jerusalem where Zionist settlers are seeking to evict Palestinian families from their homes.
Sunday’s protests follow days of clashes incited by heavy-handed Israeli repression. Demonstrators also took to the streets of the northern port city of Haifa, where 18 were arrested, as well as Nazareth and Ramallah. There were also clashes with riot police outside the gates of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where an attack on a Palestinian by Israeli civilians sparked a protest.
