THE TRUMP administration was an utter catastrophe for those who care about justice and peace in Israel/Palestine. U.S. policy was entrusted to right-wing settlement supporters such as Ambassador David Friedman and Jared Kushner and Christian Zionists such as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
The administration applauded and legalized settlement expansion, showing utter disdain for international law. They displayed blatant antagonism to Palestinians by moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, cutting off financial aid to Palestinian hospitals and the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, and closing the Palestinian Liberation Organization office in Washington. They capped it all by promoting fake “peace” alternatives, such as Trump’s disastrous “Peace to Prosperity” plan and the normalization agreements with Gulf countries. Much has been made of the Israeli success in rolling out its vaccine program. Just as much has been made of the fact that Palestinians do not have access to the Israeli-procured vaccine.
Is this an outrage? Can it be explained? Have the Israelis refused to provide the jab to the Palestinians? Have the Palestinians asked for help? Does Israel have legal and moral obligations to honour?
These are just a few of the questions raised. In seeking to provide some clarity here I will inevitably be criticised by one side or the other, or more likely both. And within the limits of this piece, I am unable to drill down deep into the nuances of the arguments on both sides. But here is, I hope, some context.

This is where things get complicated.
It is argued that Israel does not hold a legal responsibility to vaccinate those under the Palestinian Authority s control.
They cite the Oslo Accords a historic agreement signed by Israel and the Palestinian Liberation Organization in 1993 and 1995.
The Oslo Accords granted the Palestinian people the right to self-determination and, consequently, created a Palestinian Authority (PA) tasked with partial self-governance in parts of Gaza and the West Bank.
