EU increases humanitarian assistance for Palestine to over €34 million

Today, the EU has increased its humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable people in Palestine by €8 million, taking the total to €34.4 million this year. The additional funding will be dedicated to supporting victims of the recent violence. EU humanitarian funding for 2021 will help protect the most vulnerable Palestinians, provide life-saving assistance and uphold human dignity.

Building on its efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinians following the Israeli attacks earlier this month, Qatar Red Crescent Society’s (QRCS) representation mission in Gaza, jointly with the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), has finalized preparations for the procurement of emergency relief, food, and medical aid.
In a press statement, QRCS said that it will give out medications and medical consumables worth $300,000 as well as relief and food items valued at $372,000 to the victims under the ‘We Are All Palestine’ campaign.
As many as 60,000 people most impacted by the crises will benefit from the supplies.
As soon as the challenging events began in the Palestinian territories, QRCS began to offer all kinds of assistance on the ground owed to its already existing representation missions in Gaza, the West Bank, and Al-Quds.
In a statement
published on Tuesday, EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič said that following the announcement of a ceasefire, urgent humanitarian access is now vital, to relieve the suffering of the many innocent victims .
While Lenarčič said the EU was already maintaining critical support for protection programmes, health care, education, access to safe water and cash assistance , he said nothing can bring back the many civilian lives that were taken in this latest conflict .
