Some West Michigan communities are recipients of $152,430 in Project Safe Neighborhoods grant funds from the Department of Justice to support the reduction and prevention of violent crimes.
A committee of local prosecutors and law enforcement departments from Battle Creek, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, and Muskegon collectively worked with community members and nongovernmental organizations to focus on the reduction and prevention of violent crimes by supporting a combination of community-based violence prevention programs and law enforcement efforts in specific geographic areas in districts identified as the most at-risk through data collection and analysis.
Programs in Benton Harbor and Lansing also received funding.
BILLINGS â A Worden couple admitted methamphetamine trafficking charges after drug task force investigators found 10 pounds of meth in their vehicle, Acting U.S. Attorney Leif Johnson said.
Lisa Marie Fish, 39, pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute meth. Fishâs husband, Bo Bryan Fish, 40, pleaded guilty on Jan. 27 to possession with intent to distribute meth. Each faces a mandatory minimum 10 years to life in prison, a $10 million fine and at least five years of supervised release.
U.S. District Judge Susan P. Watters presided. Lisa Fish was released pending further proceedings. A sentencing date was set for June 16.
California Man Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison for Unlawfully Possessing a Firearm as a Felon Details Written by Imperial Valley News
Sacramento, California - Robert James Hanna, 38, of Elk Grove, was sentenced to eight years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced.
According to court documents, on Oct. 4, 2019, several witnesses called 911 to report a fight in progress at an intersection in Vacaville. The callers reported that Hanna and another man and two women were involved in a melee, and one of the witnesses saw a gun fall from Hanna’s clothing during the incident. Court records state that Hanna hit the man in the face several times, and at least one of the victims reported that Hanna threatened to shoot him. Hanna and a female companion fled the scene and were arrested at a nearby home-improvement store moments later. The female companion had a 9 mm pistol in her pants at the time. The
SHREVEPORT, La. – Quion M. Smith, Sr., 38, of Bossier City, Louisiana, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Donald E. Walter to 96 months (8 years) in prison followed by 3 years of supervised release for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Acting United States Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook announced.
On January 4, 2020, Louisiana State Police Troopers encountered a vehicle that was stopped at a traffic light near Interstate 220 in Bossier Parish, Louisiana. The State Troopers approached the vehicle and found that Smith was the only occupant of the vehicle and observed a firearm in plain view on the passenger seat. Troopers were able to remove the firearm for officer safety. A records check revealed that the firearm was reported stolen. Further investigation revealed that Smith was a six-time convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a firearm.
BATON ROUGE – Violence in East Baton Rouge is showing no signs of slowing after the deadliest January on record. Monday night, a 3-year-old accidentally shot itself after finding a gun inside a home. The child is expected to be okay.
