BENNINGTON â A Bennington County legislator, a co-owner of Pangaea Restaurant, the pastor of the Mission City Church, the family and community partnership manager at Bennington County Head Start and the events coordinator for the Southwestern Vermont Chamber of Commerce are among the 20 Emerging Leaders of Southern Vermont named by Southern Vermont Young Professionals and the Shires Young Professionals.
Dane Whitman, Lani DePonte-Disorda, Jake Stone, Beth Wallace and Mikaela Lewis were among the honorees recognized on May 12 during the first day of the Southern Vermont Economy Summit. The annual recognition event celebrates young people from the Bennington and Windham regions. Individuals were nominated based on their work as community leaders and volunteers, and for their professional accomplishments and commitment to serving the region.

BRATTLEBORO â Question: What possibly could electric bikes and the Brooks Memorial Library have in common? Answer: Itâs the Brattleboro E-Bike Lending Library and itâs coming to the library Friday.
The Brattleboro E-Bike Lending Library is an innovative effort in collaboration with the Brooks Memorial Library to provide area residents an opportunity to take home an e-bike for five full days and get a real-world sense of how an electric bicycle can fit into their lives. This project is made possible by Local Motion through a VTrans grant and is locally coordinated by VBike, Brattleboro Energy Committee, Brattleboroâs Sustainability Office and Brattleboro Time Trade. Local Motionâs funding paid for two great bikes, bike accessories, a reservation platform, and insurance coverage.

On Thursday, the House Education Committee voted unanimously to approve their version of S.13, a bill that proposes to create a legislative task force charged with creating an implementation plan for an updated education funding formula. The updated formula was recommended in the Pupil Weighting Factors Report authored by the University of Vermont and Rutgers University in 2019. The report documented conclusively that although Vermont has a constitutional obligation to provide all students with equitable educational opportunities, the actual costs for educating children from varying circumstances have not been taken into account. This includes children who attend small schools, children from rural areas, economically disadvantaged children and children who are English language learners.
