Brattleboro Select Board candidates announced

BRATTLEBORO — Eight candidates have come forward for three Select Board seats opening up in March. Board member Ian Goodnow is finishing his first one-year term and seeking a three-year term. Rikki Risatti, who ran in last year’s election, also is on the March 2 ballot for the three-year seat. “It has been a challenging but fulfilling year on the board,” Goodnow said. “I am humbled having had the opportunity to meet and work with so many dedicated individuals who are striving to make Brattleboro the best place it can. I love the town and I love the work of the board, and I want to do it for the next three years. And I hope that Brattleboro wants me to do that work, too.”

The money will be going to the newly formed nonprofit, the Jenn Murphy Scholarship Foundation. The Jennifer Murphy Scholarship was started 25 years ago by high school friends of Jennifer Murphy and was, at the time, a $1,000 award. As the funds ran out eventually, two of Jenn’s best friends growing up, Emily Petit and Stephanie Bonin, recently co-founded a new scholarship, the Jenn Murphy Scholarship. It was created for a 15-year-old girl, Jenn Murphy, whose life was tragically cut short but whose memory will continue to live on through this scholarship in her name. Jenn was known as a talented dancer, taking classes at the Brattleboro S

This program, in its 30th year, is endorsed by the Vermont Department of Agriculture as well as the New Hampshire/Vermont Christmas Tree Association. For a $10 donation, members of the band and chorus will transport undecorated trees from homes to a community garden in West Brattleboro where they will be chipped into mulch to be used by the gardeners. Since the town does not offer curbside pick-up of trees, the service saves residents the hassle of transporting their own trees.
