FORT WALTON BEACH Officials from Newport Beach, California-based Chipotle Mexican Grill plan to open a Chipotle restaurant this summer at the site of the former Fort Walton Beach Shrine Club.
The old Shrine Club building at 227 Carol Ave., off Mary Esther Cut-Off and just northeast of the Golden Corral restaurant, recently was demolished.
Fort Walton Beach officials approved an expedited development order for the restaurant last October, according to city Growth Management Director Chris Frassetti.
“We’ve been waiting on their building permit submittals, which included their need to pick a general contractor,” Frassetti said Wednesday. “They submitted the remaining permit documentation to us last Thursday.”

“I knew right away when we came up with the idea to decorate our front office like Santa’s workshop that I wanted to help the children of our county,” said Financial Analyst Lacy Martin, who is the mother of two young children. “People are struggling, and I can’t imagine how heartbreaking it must be if you have to choose between food on the table or presents from Santa.”
