Health care facilities in Spokane and North Idaho are beginning to administer COVID-19 vaccines to staff members.
A transplant physician with Providence Health Care received the first coronavirus vaccine administered in Spokane County on Friday morning. Hundreds of staff members are also receiving the vaccine at Kootenai Health in Coeur d Alene.
Providence Executive Vice President and Regional Chief Executive Elaine Couture administered the vaccine to Dr. Okechukwu Ojogho, who spent his night shift performing a kidney and pancreas transplant beforehand.

Health care organizations have begun to inoculate their employees with the new Pfizer Covid vaccine.
Early Friday morning, transplant surgeon Dr. Okechukwu Ojogho became the first Providence Health Care employee to receive an injection.
Providence regional CEO Elaine Couture, who’s a nurse, did the honors. The momentous event was captured via Facebook livestream.
Dr. Ojogho had spent the night performing a kidney and pancreas transplant.
Providence doctors, nurses and others who are most at risk of contracting Covid on the job will be vaccinated today [Friday]. The provider says it doesn’t have vaccine right now to inoculate everyone, but will continue the process after it receives its next shipment.

Providence to begin vaccinating high-risk caregivers this Friday

SPOKANE, Wash. Providence Health Care announced it will begin administering the COVID-19 vaccine to its high-risk caregivers in Spokane this Friday.
A spokeswoman for the health care system said it has received just under 4,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccines.

The health provider is confident more shipments are coming soon. @kxly4news
The current amount of vaccines is not yet enough to cover all of Providence’s high-risk caregivers, but the health care system is confident in future supplies.
