Providence Performing Arts Center has unveiled their 2021/2022 Broadway season! PPAC Board Chairman Joseph W. Walsh, Esq. and President and CEO J.L. Lynn Singleton announced the completion of the theatre s façade restoration project and the theatre s upcoming Broadway schedule at a press conference held in PPAC s Grand Lobby. While masks have become common within the performing-arts industry, Singleton, in an interview with The Providence Journal, said that by the fall, it s highly unlikely that actors will be wearing them. Actors Equity is presently in negotiation, Singleton said, referring to the trade union for theater performers. And in that negotiation, one of the deal points is every actor that tours will be vaccinated and every building they go to, everybody in that building that they they come in contact [with] stagehands, house staff, full-time staff will be vaccinated.
As for whether PPAC will require proof of vaccination from audiences, Singleton said that s to be determined.
PPAC announces 2021-22 schedule
PROVIDENCE – Providence Performing Arts Center’s curtain will rise again in October.
Twelve performances for the 2021-22 Broadway season were announced Tuesday by Providence Performing Arts Center leadership, signaling a sign that the historic downtown theater will raise the curtain soon after being dark for more than a year.
PPAC’s lights have been dim since March 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and other performance venues have been temporarily repurposed for pandemic-related matters. PPAC initially planned to reopen in January, but then pushed its restart back until the fall of 2021. PPAC President J.L. “Lynn” Singleton said at the time that the Broadway industry as a whole opted to do a national reset of all touring shows – which PPAC regularly hosts – and the shows would not be held between January and June.
