Days after the Tuscaloosa City Council’s District 1 got its first candidate, a new challenger has emerged.
The Rev. Matthew Wilson, who has represented District 1 on the city’s Board of Education for the past four years, has announced his intention to transition to the City Council in 2021.
“I want to see a safe District 1,” said Wilson, 38, “and I want to continue to see premier education for our children.
“I want to be the voice for al District 1. Red, yellow, black and white – we are all precious.”
Wilson, who was recently battling the effects of a COVID-19 infection, said he planned to qualify for the City Council’s District 1 seat on Friday, the actual birthdate of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
