While 54 deaths is easily the most deaths reported in Oregon on a single day, health officials alluded to a lag in how those deaths are processed and reported.

SALEM, Ore. The Oregon Health Authority marked 54 more deaths attributed to coronavirus on Tuesday, easily the most fatalities from the virus reported on a single day since the pandemic began and raising the state s death toll to 1,214. Today’s record-high death toll tragically reminds us that the pandemic is far from over despite the arrival of vaccines in Oregon, said Patrick Allen, director of the Oregon Health Authority. These Oregonians and the ones who passed before them were loved ones who will be dearly missed by their families, for whom we express our sincerest condolences.”

Since the pandemic began, there have been 1,214 deaths and 96,092 confirmed cases. Today’s record-high death toll tragically reminds us that the pandemic is far from over despite the arrival of vaccines in Oregon, said Patrick Allen, director of the Oregon Health Authority.
