Earlier today, Hudson County Superior Court Judge Patrick J. Arre, sentenced Jorge A. Rios,
35, of Jersey City, to 30 years in New Jersey state prison for the murder and sexual assault of Carolina Cano which occurred on March 24th, 2019 in Jersey City’s Lincoln Park, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.
Arre sentenced Rios to 30 years for the first-degree murder charge, which carries a mandatory minimum of 30 years of parole ineligibility.
He also sentenced him to 10 years with a required 85 percent for the charge of aggravated sexual assault, which is to run concurrent to the 30 year sentence. Upon release, the defendant is subject to parole supervision for life and Megan’s Law.

Authorities are investigating the stabbing death of a Jersey City man overnight on New Years in Jersey City.
Police officers found Tyrone Haskins, 39, with a stab wound to his torso near 333 Ocean Ave., around 2:45 a.m. on Jan. 1, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said.
He was taken by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center and pronounced dead at approximately 3:20 a.m.
The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.

Aiesha McFadden, a 36- year-old mother of four, was shot and killed on Dec. 4.
The Jersey City community is rallying to support the loved ones of a local mother who was shot and killed while walking home earlier this month.
On Dec. 4 Jersey City Public School worker and mother of four Aieshia McFadden was assaulted and shot and killed in front of her daughter on Martin Luther King Junior Drive.
She was 36 years old.
Now, an online Facebook fundraiser, started by Tiffany Critten, has circulated throughout the community successfully raising more than $20,000 of the $50,000 goal through the donations of 429 people this week.
Fatal shooting victim is ID’d as 35-year-old Jersey City man

The victim of a fatal shooting on a busy Jersey City street Thursday afternoon was identified as a 35-year-old Jersey City man, Hudson County Esther Suarez said Friday.
Niles Holmes was shot multiple times in his upper body at 4:15 p.m. on Martin Luther King Drive near Wilkinson Avenue and he was unresponsive when he was rushed to the Jersey City Medical Center. He was pronounced deceased at 6:12 p.m.
A second shooting victim, a 24-year-old man, sustained two graze wounds to his arm. He was also taken to the JCMC and treated.
