The Rome Statute is the international treaty that founded the International Criminal Court. Comprising of 13 Parts, it establishes the governing framework for the Court. Adopted at the Rome Conference on 17th July 1998, it came into force on 1st July 2002, thereby creating the International Criminal Court.

1. Thank you Mr President. On behalf of the Office of the Prosecutor, I am Fatou Bensouda, Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court. 2. Mr President, Your Honours, Mr Ali Muhammad Ali Abd-Al-Rahman, known more commonly by his alias “Ali Kushayb”, is charged with 31 counts of crimes against humanity and war crimes. These include crimes of torture, rape and murder of civilians in the Wadi Salih and Mukjar Localities of West Darfur State, between at least August 2003 and at least April 2004.

ICC Prosecutor calls on Libyan gov’t to arrest, surrender Seif al-Islam Gaddafi to Court

The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has called on the Libyan Government to take all possible measures to arrest and surrender of Seif al-Islam Gaddafi to the court.
Seif Al-Islam, a son of the late Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi, is the subject of an ICC warrant, Fatou Bensouda told the Security Council on Monday.
“I must recall that the arrest warrant for Mr. Saif al-Islam Gaddafi is still outstanding,” Mrs. Bensouda said in a speech to the Security Council via videoconference.
