Dodgers mourn passing of Tommy Lasorda

Hall of Fame Dodgers’ manager Tommy Lasorda, who spent seven decades in the Dodger organization and became one of the most memorable personalities in baseball history, passed away Thursday night the team announced. He was 93.
Lasorda suffered a sudden cardiopulmonary arrest at his home at 10:09 p.m. He was transported to the hospital with resuscitation in progress. He was pronounced dead at 10:57 p.m.
Regarded by many as baseball’s most popular ambassador, Lasorda spent 71 seasons in the Dodger organization with Dodger Blue running through his veins. He spent the last 14 as special advisor to the chairman.
The 48 hour fitness challenge was popularised by US ultrarunner David Goggins.
It was an emotional undertaking, with Portors tackling the fundraiser in honour of his father Chris who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2019 and is terminal.
“I’d been thinking of ways I could fundraise since then really,” he said.
“More and more people are starting to do birthday fundraisers on Facebook and stuff but people didn’t seem to be really getting around them as much as I thought they would.
“So, I thought I’d give myself a bit of a challenge and give people a reason to get around the cause and show support.”
Some racial and ethnic groups suffer relatively more often, and fare worse, from common ailments compared to others. Prostate cancer is one disease where.
