World Cancer Day: Breast cancer the most commonly diagnosed cancer type in the world

Breast cancer has become the most commonly diagnosed cancer type in the world, the World Health Organisation has revealed on World Cancer Day. According to the WHO s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), breast cancer in both sexes made up 11.7 per cent of all new cancer cases globally in 2020. This figure compared with 11.4 per cent for lung cancer, 10 per cent for colorectal cancer, 7.3 per cent prostate cancer and 5.6 per cent stomach cancer. In 2020, 2.3 million cases of breast cancer in women alone were diagnosed worldwide, while about 685,000 deaths occurred from breast cancer.  Lung cancer was previously the most prevalent cancer. But in 2020, breast cancer in both sexes made up 11.7 per cent of all new cancer cases globally. An estimated 2.3 female breast cancer cases were diagnosed in 2020, resulting in 685,000 deaths 

Swindon stationery maker Pentel honoured after raising £2 1 million for cancer charities

A SOUTH MARSTON stationery manufacturer won a top award after raising more than £2.1 million for two charities. The team of 25 staff at Pentel s office and warehouse in South Marston Park have supported Breast Cancer Now since 2006 and Prostate Cancer UK since 2009 by selling more than nine million special edition EnerGel pens. For every pen sold, whether they re pink-barrelled for breast cancer or blue and white for prostate cancer, the company donates 25p to the respective charities, The office supplies industry s trade association The BOSS Federation honoured the business with a Fundraising Hero award in recognition of its efforts over the last 14 years.

Seven-year-old boy from Dyserth raises £2,000 sum

A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy ran a marathon in a month to raise more than £2,000 for cancer research. Jacob Harris was joined by dad Stephen, from Dyserth, as they ran nearly every day during January to clock up the 26.2-mile target. They had initially aimed to raise £262 – or £10 for every mile – but they received huge support and gathered a total of £2,023, which will be donated to Prostate Cancer UK. Mum Leanne said: Jacob wanted to do something for charity and he loves running and football and never sits still so Stephen came up with the idea. They have run from the house, around the roads as well as down the railway track.
