In addition to covering the big stories of the day, WVXU has launched a community storytelling initiative to seek out the people, places and events that make Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky unique.
For Round the Corner, a WVXU reporter will spend several weeks getting to know residents, business operators and leaders in one neighborhood, suburb or a community of folks, like say, veterans.
First up: The Cincinnati neighborhood of Roselawn.
Cincinnati Public Radio listeners heard the first stories last week, when Jolene Almendarez reported on Cuc Le, 74, the Vietnamese refugee and mother of 10 who has been cooking at her family s Song Long restaurant since 1985.

A church in Roselawn has been transforming into a community hub for just over a decade, renovating a formerly dilapidated community space in an effort to return it to its glory days. But it s not just about the space. Pastor Damon Lynch III says focusing on essentials people need, like childcare and business development, creates a playing field where communities can thrive.
On a recent Sunday, at least 200 people attended the 11 a.m. service at New Prospect Baptist Church in Roselawn, masked and socially distanced. In-person services began about a month ago and it s not just gathering for worship that has people excited to reconvene. It s getting back to the fundamentals of community outreach and service the church was founded upon.

OKLAHOMA CITY -
A handful of Oklahoma state senators walked out before the chamber’s daily prayer after the reverend at the lectern took aim at a sitting senator’s recent comments.
“Should have deemed it wrong, Senator Dahm. You don’t have to take it back. It s still sexist. It is still misogynistic,” Rev. Dr. Lee Cooper Jr. of Prospect Baptist Church said from the dais.
At least five senators walked during his message Thursday morning.
Cooper was referring to Dahm s, R-Broken Arrow, sexual innuendo involving paper straws and Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I’m not going to apologize for starting that conversation or apologize for my comments that have led to these conversations,” Dahm told reporters Tuesday.
