It’s time to meet the unsung heroes hoping to be crowned winners in the Swindon and Wiltshire Health & Care Awards 2021. As we wait with bated breath for the winners to be announced on May 27, each week in the lead-up to our virtual awards ceremony we’ll shine a light on the finalists vying for the top spot in four different categories - starting today with the Care Hero Award, Adolescent & Childcare Award, Mental Health Award and Volunteer of the Year Award. From frontline workers and nurses to mental health professionals and community stalwarts, scores of locals who showed themselves to be exceptional in the midst of the Covid crisis were put forward for the Care Hero Award.

Sunday’s game - which ended 7-7 and saw the blue team reign victorious on penalties - was held at the County Ground and took place to raise funds for the charity which was chosen by Alan McLoughlin’s family. The match was extremely well supported with a host of former players returning to take part, featuring alongside former and current club staff, and those who contribute to the Loathed Strangers podcast.
Volunteers needed for Prospect House in Marlborough The Prospect Hospice’s two charity shops in Marlborough are in urgent need of new volunteers. The charity needs more volunteers to undertake a variety of roles, from sorting through donations to serving on the shop floor. If you are interested in volunteering at the shops please email volunteering@prospect-hospice.net Victoria Canavan, head of retail at Prospect Hospice, said: “Volunteers are priceless to our shops, which are an important part of the hospice’s fundraising. We are looking for people interested in volunteering and who are enthusiastic and motivated and have a flair for fashion, books, music and antiques.
