The past year has seen a flood of new education schemes pop up which aim to bring new talent and diverse voices into the advertising industry. But will this lead to lasting change? 22/04/2021 7:23 am In the wake of George Floyd’s murder last year and the renewed Black Lives Matter protests that it prompted, the ad industry joined numerous other sectors in pledging to make many much-needed improvements when it came to diversity and inclusion, and to stamp out the systemic racism that’s underpinned its hiring, pay scales, project work and the paths available for those breaking into the industry.

When people hear the word diversity they tend to automatically think of race, ethnicity and culture. While those are extremely important aspects, diversity is much broader and plays an integral part in team cohesion and effectiveness. Building a team that offers a variety of perspectives, experiences and opinions encourages learning and personal development, both key attributes required to enhance creativity and problem solving.
