Willah Mudolo, one of Shepherd Bushiri’s alleged accomplices, has accused the Department of Correctional Services of forging his signature on a document in which he confessed to having access to a cellphone while in custody. This accusation formed part of Mudolo’s defence in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday where he was formally applying for bail.

Mkhwebane perjury charge ‘best news out of NPA’ Updated Karabo Tebele Share this: Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane is expected to appear in court in January on a charge of perjury. @PublicProtector The charge stems from a perjury complaint laid by civil society organisation Accountability Now.  It laid the charge against Mkhwebane following a Constitutional Court ruling which found her to have been dishonest in her investigation into the apartheid-era loan by the SA Reserve Bank to Bankorp. NPA spokesperson Sipho Ngwema says they decided to prosecute after being presented with evidence by the Hawks.    Indeed, the Director of Public Prosecutions in Pretoria did take a decision to prosecute after a carefully assessed the evidence presented to him by the Hawks. 

State Asked To Withdraw Bushiris Unconditional Release Case Review

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Steven Kayuni has written the High court in Lilongwe to withdraw a criminal review of unconditional release of Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary. In a letter dated December 15 2020, signed by DPP Steven Kayuni addressed to Judge Fiona Mwale, who is hearing the criminal review and copied to lawyer for Bushiris Wapona Kita said the State has applied for the withdrawal because the criminal review has been overtaken by the formal extradition request by South African government. According to Kayuni, the State will now be dealing with the extradition litigation. The High court was expecting to make its ruling on December 22 2020 in the State application which was challenging the unconditional release of the Bushiris by the Principal Resident Magistrate court in the extradition case.

Credit: Gallo Images The Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions has taken a decision to prosecute Public Protector Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane for perjury, NPA spokesperson Sipho Ngwema confirmed on Tuesday. The NPA wishes to confirm that the DPP indeed took a decision to prosecute after he carefully assessed the evidence presented to him by the Hawks. This is in line with the prosecution policy and the law, he said.
