Within a month, refurbishment work at Cacique Mall, commonly called the old market building, in Princes Town, is expected to be done, ending the problem of a leaking roof for about 30 vendors.
So said chairman of the Princes Town Regional Corporation (PTRC) Gowrie Roopnarine, who estimated the repair cost at $200,000.
Roopnarine said the corporation has asked the contractor to expedite the work to complete it on time or before time.
Parliamentarians pay tribute to De Coteau, Shand

Parliamentarians paid tribute to former MPs Eden Shand and Clifton de Coteau during Wednesday’s sitting of the House of Representatives. The two men passed away within days of each other on January 20 and 22 respectively.
Shand served as MP for St Ann’s West between 1987 and 1991. He was parliamentary secretary in the Ministry of Food Production, Marine Exploitation, Forestry and the Environment from 1987-1988 and as minister in the Ministry of External Affairs and Foreign Trade from 1987November 1991.
MP for Port of Spain North/St Ann’s West Stuart Young said Shand was a man who gave service during a dark time in Trinidad and Tobago’s history.

Clifton De Coteau was all of this and more, recalled his relatives during his funeral service at St Stephen’s Anglican Church in Princes Town, this morning (Monday 25 January 2021).
Due to the COVID-19 protocols, only family, close friends and his political colleagues were allowed inside the church. The casket remained closed at the request of his family.
Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar did not attend the church service, but Oropouche MP Dr Roodal Moonilal who was among the politicians in attendance today, said Mrs Persad-Bissessar is expected to attend the cremation at Belgroves Funeral Home in San Fernando.
Voters trickle in at Hindustan/St Mary’s

The candidates vying for the Hindustan/St Mary’s seat in the local government by-election on Monday said voting process went well.
PNM candidate Martina Loubon-Le Gendre voted at Tableland Secondary School at about 9 am, saying the process went “extremely smoothly.”
When Newsday visited the area, there was no activity and only one voter near the school.
Loubon-Le Gendre, the lone female candidate, said: “It started off a bit slow, and things are picking up.”
