With quick rise in numbers, both tigers and humans in Gadchiroli may find the going tough

According to Gadchiroli DCF S R Kumarswamy, there are nine tigers in his division, five of them cubs. “The two human deaths in the past two months are by two different tigers,” he said. Already, two tiger deaths, one stated to be natural and the other in a territorial fight, have been recorded in Gadchiroli in January and June this year. Back in 2017, a tigress had to be captured in Wadsa division after it had killed two persons. Alapalli division has only two transient tigers. “They were not seen over the past about eight months. But recently, they have come back and have killed cattle,” said Alapalli DFC Chandrakant Tambe. All three divisions have been recording growing number of cattle kills, as revealed by the three DCFs.

Hyderabad: Nehru Zoological Park becomes first zoo in country to receive ISO certification By News Desk|   Published: 16th December 2020 7:44 pm IST Hyderabad: The Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad was awarded ISO 9001:2015 certification for Quality Management System, making it the first zoo in the country to receive such recognition, said the Telangana forest department in a press release here on  Wednesday. The ISO certificate helps to ensure that the zoo authorities maintain the quality of standards. The HYM International Certifications Pvt Ltd accredited by ASCB (UK) recently conducted assessment of ISO 9001:2015 certifications, with their team members. The team conducted the audit in a phased manner and they expressed their satisfaction and happiness in the standards being followed in Nehru Zoological Park particularly in fields of sanitization, food processing, animal breeding, zoo hospital, animal care, hygiene maintenance and establishment, stated the release.

Media can influence community behaviour towards wildlife

State-level media workshop on wildlife conservation held at BRT Sanctuary Chamarajanagar: The Biligiri Ranganathaswamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary, commonly called BRT Sanctuary, is located at the confluence of the Western Ghats and the Eastern Ghats and the sanctuary is home to eco-systems that are unique to both the mountain ranges.  This sanctuary is unique because it has scrub, dry deciduous, moist deciduous, semi-evergreen, evergreen and shola forests. It is also known for its many endemic species of plants including valuable medicinal ones, said Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF)-Wildlife, Ajay Misra. He was speaking to media persons who are a part of a State-level media workshop on wildlife conservation on Tuesday at K. Gudi that comes under BRT Sanctuary. Misra inaugurated the workshop.
