Another different 17th of May holiday

Another ‘different’ 17th of May holiday May 17, 2021 The Corona pandemic, combined with cold and constant rain, literally put a damper on celebrations of Norway’s national day on the 17th of May. With all parades cancelled and large gatherings banned for the second year in a row, the Royal Family and most everybody else could only hope festivities will be back to normal next year. All radio and TV stations carried the vastly scaled-down royal celebration of Norway’s Constitution Day on Monday. Royal Family members briefly assembled on the palace balcony. The Norwegian Royal family don traditional dress to celebrate constitutional day

The Norwegian King and his family donned traditional dress as they proudly waved flags from Oslo s Palace balcony in Oslo today. King Harald V, 84, was joined by his wife Queen Sonja, his son Crown Prince Haakon, his daughter in law Crown Princess Mette-Marit and their children Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus as they celebrated the Constitution Day. While the men in the family marked the occasion by donning black top hats and suits, the women opted for traditional Scandinavian dress.  At first glance the joyous snaps may appear to show the festivities in full swing, but they were scaled back compared to previous years due to social distancing measures which remain in place amid the coronavirus pandemic.
