PHILIPSBURG: - On Saturday, April 17, 2021, the management of Port St. Maarten welcomed 159 passengers aboard the Celebrity Reflection cruise ship who were evacuated from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines due to the eruption of La Soufriére volcano. Prime Minister Silveria E. Jacobs, Minister of Justice Anna E. Richardson, Ministry of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transportation and Telecommunications Secretary-General, Miguel de Weever, and Foreign Affairs Department Acting Head Patrice Gumbs were all present to ensure any needed assistance was rendered to the passengers. The arriving passengers all had a negative COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours of arrival and are predominately nationals or residents of the US, Canada, and the United Kingdom (UK).

SIMPSON BAY: - Since 2020, the global pandemic due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) has accelerated the importance of safe travel for air service and cruising throughout the world. In an ever-evolving travel market, the key leaders of the Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) and Port St. Maarten Group of Companies are synergizing on strategies to ricochet the destination and tourism enterprises forward. In a series of successful assemblies, the tourism-based counterparts initially convened at Port St. Maarten on April 9, 2021, whereby varied topics were headlined by future updates on the infrastructure of both entities. The local cruise port and airport are under transformation with the joint aim to achieve growth.

PHILIPSBURG: - As of April 17th, there were two (2) persons who tested positive for COVID-19; however, two (2) persons have recovered; bringing the total active cases to thirty-four (34). The total number of confirmed cases is now two thousand two hundred five (2205).
The Collective Prevention Services (CPS) are monitoring thirty-four (34) people in home isolation. No patients are hospitalized at the St. Maarten Medical Center. The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 remains at twenty-seven (27).
The number of people recovered since the first case surfaced on St. Maarten has increased to two thousand one hundred forty-four (2144). Thirty-seven (37) people are in quarantine based on contact tracing investigations carried out by CPS.

The reconstruction of the terminal, as previously reported, is made possible, through the financing arrangements in place by the Government of St. Maarten, the World Bank, the European Investment Bank (EIB), and PJIAE’s bondholders.
